Ups and downs defined the Cowboys' 2005 season, but ultimately the negatives outweighed the positives despite a 9-7 record, Dallas missed the playoffs. But considering its defensive switch, a host of rookies playing large roles and new starters at quarterback, corner-back and at three OL spots, the team was competitive.
The problem was that the running game stalled, with the line absorbing much of the blame, and though the Eagles fell in the NFC East, the Redskins and Giants rose. So Dallas was left on the outside looking in. Perhaps that disappointment led the team to make one of its boldest moves ever: taking on talented but troublesome WR Terrell Owens. In terms of risk vs. reward, Owens' talent should outweigh his disruptive tendencies for this season, anyway.
Is TO. the difference? Maybe. But a young "D" must grow up quickly, the 0-line minus mainstay Larry Alien must improve and the Cowboys must regain their running prowess to surge back to the top of the division.

Cowboys NFL 2006 Draft:

Bobby Carpenter, who joined his Ohio State teammate, A.J. Hawk, in the first round, should be a solid fit opposite DeMarcus Ware, as he j can rush the passer, stop the run or drop into J; coverage. Anthony Fasano excelled in the — Charlie Weis offense at Notre Dame last season and is expected to team well with Jason Witten in the Cowboys' two-tight-end offense. Jason Hatcher is a former tight end who is coming off an impressive senior season at Grambling State. He has the size to be an effective starter in the 3-4 scheme. Skyler Green lacks size, but is quick and can be an effective kick returner. Pat Watkins is a free safety who excels in coverage, but struggles when coming up in run support. Montavious Stanley is a strong widebody inside who could develop into a starting nose tackle. Offensive tackle Pat McCoy and C/OT E.J. Whitley will need time to develop. This was not a flashy draft, but it could produce as many as four future starters
