The Rams' 6-10 record in 2005 was their worst in seven seasons, and their defense was one of the worst in franchise history. With head coach Mike Martz's relationship with the front office also steadily deteriorating to the point of no return, his dismissal less than 12 hours following the regular-season finale in Dallas was hardly surprising.
Seventeen days later, the Rams replaced Martz with 42-year-old Scott
Linehan, who immediately promised to . establish a fresh family environment at Rams Park along with an upbeat, aggressive and exciting approach on both sides of the ball.

| With one of the best drafts, the Rams filled numerous holes across their roster. Tye U Hill has top-notch coverage skills, but will need to overcome height limitations. Joe Klopfenstein and Dominique Byrd were added to upgrade the tight end position and free up the outside receivers, Claude Wroten was considered a late first-round talent, but dropped to the third due to character issues. Jon Alston lacks size but runs well and will compete for the weakside job as a rookie. Victor Adeyanju excels as a pass rusher and will provide the needed depth behind Leonard Little and Tony Hargrove. Marques Hagans was a quarterback at Virginia, but projects to wide receiver in St. Louis. Tim McGarigle is a competitive overachiever who made a ton of plays at Northwestern. Mark Setterstrom is an experienced 50-game starter who excels in the running game. Tony Palmer is a massive guard who can drive his opponent off the ball. |
